Morocco was elected Tuesday in Bonn chairman of the steering committee of the global partnership for sustainable tourism for the 2013-2015 period.

The Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism is a global initiative launched in 2011 to inject sustainability principles into the mainstream of tourism policies, development, and operations. It emerged as a more permanent successor to the International Task Force on Sustainable Tourism Development (ITF-STD). The Secretariat is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme, Division of Technology, Industry, and Economics (UNEP-DTIE).

Morocco’s election is evidence to the recognition of stakeholders of tourism sustainability worldwide to Morocco’s efforts and commitment in this field and consolidates Morocco’s will to be a reference destination in the Mediterranean, says the tourism ministry.

Morocco takes over France which had chaired the steering committee for two years.
