According to the official website of the University of Virginia, the Moroccan professor, Majida Bargach, who is interim director of the University of Virginia’s Center for International Studies, has won the Extraordinary Achievement Award in Education in honor of International Women’s Day.

Given by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s Women’s Initiative, Bargach received her award Sunday at a celebration near Washington.

I was not expecting it, certainly. I think the ADC is one of the most important Arab organizations in the United States,” she said. “Mostly, I am so pleased to be able to be a mentor to young Arab women.” She added.

“In life, you come across people who are intelligent and people who are very genuine and humanistic. It is rare to find those qualities in a single person,” Amal David, Women’s Initiative chairwoman, said.

“She is a person who has been giving to students and genuinely cares about their education,” she added.

Founded by former U.S. Senator James Abourezk in 1980, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting their rich cultural heritage.

Originally called International Working Women’s Day, International Women’s Day (IWD) is marked on March 8 every year, commemorating the advances and the economic, political and social achievements made by women all over the world.
