Rabat – During a broadcast of “The 700 Club” on June 14, the famous American televangelist Pat Robertson claimed that conservatives should stay away from the battle between Islam and gay rights.

This announcement comes days after the shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando.

“The left is having a dilemma of major proportions and I think for those of us who disagree with some of their policies, the best thing to do is to sit on the sidelines and let them kill themselves,” said Robertson.

Mr. Robertson has also criticized President Obama and Hillary Clinton for refusing to attribute the massacre to radical Islam. However, he showed his support for Trump, saying: “Donald Trump is riding high because he said we should screen these people, and he’s absolutely right.”

In response to Robertson’s statements, many people expressed their anger against the right wing Christian leader’s expressions. The most circulated reaction was of the People For the American Way president Michael Keegan.

“For anyone to abide, or even welcome, the slaughter of LGBT people is sickening,” said Keegan via email. “Robertson’s words are un-American and un-Christian—and they shed a bright light on the hatred and bigotry of the Religious Right that continues to fuel anti-gay violence.”
