Rabat, November 30, 2012

Current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, considered to be very close to the Kingdom of Morocco, is preparing to pass the baton to another lady who should take charge of the American diplomacy.

According to informed sources in Washington, U.S. ambassador to the UN Susan Rice is to lead the State Department. For the first time in the history of the United States, the White House and the State Department would be entrusted to two African-American people.

In Rabat, officials are very suspicious of this “Iron Lady”, a connoisseur of Africa – She was Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs under President Bill Clinton, whose speeches often contain hints of the time of the Carter administration.

Moroccan diplomats to the United Nations are familiar with Susan Rice and her positions, rather distant from those of the kingdom. With her arrival at the State Department, the relationship between Morocco and the US might not witness their best period in the coming months, particularly when it comes to the Sahara issue.
