André Azoulay, Adviser to King Mohammed VI and President of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation, has received St. Augustine Award for Inter-religious Dialogue in the Mediterranean.

The ceremony, which was attended by Italian religious and civil authorities, was held in the ceremonial hall of the prestigious Ambrosiana Library, which hosts one of the richest European collections of Arabic manuscripts, emblematic of philosophy, science and theology “when the Mediterranean world spoke and wrote in Arabic.”

“It is that period that we need to revisit, when faith and reason mingled and where our respective spiritualities had the talent to identify themselves with an enlightened monotheism, embracing progress, humanism and modernity,” Mr Azoulay said.

“It is in that culture of otherness, freedom, mutual respect and learning to live together that I find my way around as a believer,” he added.

Mr Azoulay pointed out that “by proposing to the Moroccan people a Constitution which emphasizes in its preamble the founding place of the Arab-Muslim, Berber, Jewish, Hassani and Andalusian civilizations in our heritage and our identity, HM King Mohammed VI has given the uniqueness of our national destiny all its strength,” he said.
